Life of Whales – Reykjavik
A day of Excitement and Wonder.
How long is the trip and where do you go ?
The whale watching tour is appr. 3 hours. We start with a stop by the Puffin island near cost, inhabited by thousands of puffins. The boats get very close - providing an excellent photo opportunity for our passengers. Around the islands you might also spot other birds like eider ducks, black guillemots and cormorants. From the bird island we heat out to Faxafloi bay searching for Whales. We rarely have to go further than 10 – 15 miles from shore.
Where is the departure point?
Departure point is from Reykjavik harbour – board the Restaurant “Lobstership” where our waiting lounge is.
Do you offer hotel pick-up?
Yes we do offer Hotel pick-up on the capital area.
How to dress – do we need rain cloths?
Rain clothes are not needed but warm clothing and footwear are always good to bring.
How big is your boat and is the boat save?
To ensure passengers convenient and safety we only take up to 150 people on board each time. Doing that, we can offer all passengers a comfortable seat inside the boat so they don’t have to stand or sit outside on the deck should they want to. The boat is equipped with the latest in computerized navigation and communication technology. Our crew has been sailing for many years and the captain Gunnar started the Sea Angling in Faxafloi bay in 1990. All the members of the crew are skilled and go regularly to training at maritime safety and survival center. The boat is well equipped and all safety regulations of the Icelandic Maritime Administration are met and fulfilled.
Is it likely that we see Whales?
It’s very likely that we see Whales, but of course we can’t promise up on the nature. Last year, 2009, we had over 98% sighting. In the year 2007 we saw Whales in 96% of our tours and from June 1st 2008 we saw Whales in 99,6 % of our tours.
Which Whale species can we expect to see?
Most likely to be seen is the Minke Whale, Harbour porpoises, Dolphins and Humpback.
Do people get sea sick?
On our new ship ANDREA it's very unusual since the ship is very stable due to its size but now and then people get sea sick and of cause it’s weather depending. We do have sea sickness pills on board for those who want to have.
Why choosing Life of Whales?
We emphasize to have personal service on board. We want people to really enjoy the tour and f.ex. invide them to come into the Wheelhouse and talk to our captain and see how the equipment works.
The boat has a large viewing deck on the top floor so you can see over a huge area when searching for the whales.
All passengers can have a seat inside the boat if the want to and enjoy the tour through big windows.
